Dr. Deborah Green
Professional Doctorate Course
Dr Deborah Green is a passionate practitioner of entangled praxes, embracing Trickster playfulness within arts-based research, therapy and supervision. Her career interweaving arts, education and health began in South Africa. Within the university and health sectors (1990-2004) she gained postgraduate qualifications in drama and education, lectured, worked in community theatre and development, lifeskills/HIV/AIDS education and counselling. Immigrating to Aotearoa New Zealand, she studied Creative Arts Therapy (CAT) (Whitecliffe, 2011) and gained her PhD (University of Auckland, 2016) for an arts-based autoethnographic exploration of her CAT practice during the Canterbury earthquakes. As senior academic within Whitecliffe School of Creative Arts Therapy, she became Head of School, Professor and Programme Chair. She returned to in(tra)dependence in 2026 and, alongside private work, contracts to MIECAT (Australia), and Whitecliffe.
She is ANZACATA registered, an ardent advocate of arts-based practices, supervises master’s and PhD/ProfDoc students, edits for JoCAT and CAET, has published in several academic journals/books and presented at international conferences/symposia.
