Whether in a kindergarten or a tertiary setting I find myself curious about being, knowing, becoming and belonging. I am continually amazed at the richly unique and diverse ways that humans express themselves and make meaning. Therapeutic arts processes and practices support being and coming-to-know creatively, ethically, relationally, multi modally and emergently. This can be transformative.
Studying at MIECAT held me through turbulent times, as a parent and a partner and eventually led to a professional doctorate researching presence and voice, culminating in A search for presence. I was most surprised to see the birth of the poet in me.
Supporting MIECAT students as they encounter therapeutic arts practices through unique learning processes is a challenge but also a privilege and a joy.
Karen is the coordinator of our Masters in Therapeutic Arts Practice course.
She also a supervisor in our Professional Doctorate.
